Coaching Frameworks

In-person session
£75/hr
This is a ‘hands-on’ technical session in my private gym in Rushden.
The focus with these sessions is typically to
– Use real-time cueing to iron-out technique issues
– Explore changes in technique together and do a bit of experimentation, e.g. altering stance on the squat, grip on the bench press, or moving from a high bar to a low bar squat.
– Introduce a new exercise variant, such as a sumo deadlift for a conventional puller.
And, for lifters with a meet on the horizon:
– Work towards competition standards
– Practise commands
– Get a feel for (or get reacquainted with!) what it’s like to lift in front of a ref.
Full Powerlifting Coaching |Remote
£190 pcm

This option is full powerlifting coaching: programming, video feedback, and communication.
Programming is fully bespoke and individualised, built from the ground up based on your response to training.
For most lifters, I gravitate towards an approach informed by RTS’s Emerging Strategies.
This bit’s not only about giving you a programme, but analysing the response (your training data) after each block—which then informs where we go next.
Video review is detailed and ongoing, with the intention of assessing
– Efficiency—or what I sometimes call ‘the physics bit’. I’m looking at things like moment arms and bar paths here.
– Competition legality—’Would I have given this a red or a white if I was refereeing?’
– How you’re rating your RPE
Communication
I aim to have feedback on your workout within 24h (business hours)—usually in time for your next session.
Communication is via email (24h—business hours—response time) but you’re also encouraged to leave notes in your training log.
I typically will have lifters email me with a weekly check-in to give me a bit of context as to how their training week has gone, as well as what else is going on in their life (e.g. work stress, and whether we need to adjust training in light of that).
For new lifters, I like to do an initial call before writing your first block. Then, we do a call after each training block (usually 5-6 weeks for most people), or competition, to review how it went and plan our next steps.
Beyond the programme
This is the part that a lot of people forget about—I call this ‘the sports psychology bit’—where I draw on my mental health expertise.
As much as I’d sometimes like for this to be true, our minds and bodies aren’t separate! Many of us will deal with psychological phenomena that will affect our training—performance anxiety is a great example to which a lot of folks will be able to relate—but there are sometimes less obvious things, like self-limiting beliefs, that can stop us from accessing our full potential as athletes.
Meet-day handling is included for IPF lifters (subject to location and availability) and I’ll usually be able to provide support remotely, in real-time, for lifters in other federations.
